iimindIf candidates with percentile below 95 in common admission test ( CAT) get calls from Indian Institute of Management Indore, they should not be hopeful of getting admission in post graduate programme even though the institute does not entertain CAT score after initial shortlisting round.

Information received on an RTI application revealed that no one with less than 95 percentile has got a final admission offer for PGP at IIM Indore for the general category in the last 3 years. Admission criterion is: 90 percentile overall and 85 percentile in both the sections for the general category.

In any case, it is a little difficult to have an overall percentile of less than 95 percentile if you have to satisfy 85 percentile in the second sections. So, it appears unlikely for too many students with less than 95 percentile even getting calls. Bagging a final admission offer will be very tough.

Take note: CAT score is only a filter for shortlisting candidates for personal interview ( PI) and written ability test ( WAT) round. There will be a normalisation scheme for 10th, 12th and Bachelor’s Degree scores. Candidates with good past academic would be preferred for admissions.

IIM Indore gives 50 per cent weight to past academic record and 35 per cent to PI and 15 per cent to WAT. The ratio of candidates called to admission offers is 1: 10. IIM Indore has 451 seats in PGP. But 4510 interviews will not take place.

Why? IIM Indore starts its interview process after final results of IIMs in Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Kolkata are out in April. They have been doing it for the last two years now and Prof Rohit Kapoor ( CAT 2015 2016 Convenor and Admissions Chairperson at IIM- I) is very happy with this schedule.

About six months back, he had said that since candidates who have offers from IIM ABC are unlikely to appear for the IIM Indore interview, only serious candidates who are likely to join on getting an offer turn up.

This ensures that the panel at IIM Indore gets to spend a lot of time per candidate and the overall process is satisfactory for both the professors and the students who appear for the interview. Earlier, there was a lot of pressure to finish off interviews early because of the sheer number of people which had to be interviewed.

No weightage to woman candidates:

Like pervious year, IIM Indore has decided not to give any extra weight to woman candidates while shortlisting candidates for Class of 2015 2016. Besides IIM Indore, IIMs in Ahmedabad and Bangalore will also not give additional weight to woman candidates.

Except for these three IIMs, all the other IIMs give extra marks to the fairer sex for gender diversity.Last year, the IIM Indore had not given any additional marks to woman candidates still it managed to admit over 140 women in a batch of 450 students.

Apart from this, the institute will also not give extra weight to non- engineering background students in the shortlisting. This is why the percent of engineers is very high at IIM Indore every year.Weight is also not given to work experience that’s why number of freshers remains relatively high.

We wish you all the best for your future..
